II Kings 17 - Yahweh rejected Israel and Judah, giving them over into the hands of the pagan Gentiles, because “they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He made with their fathers, and His testimonies which He had testified against them.”
One point to make is there is no mention of dispensations. It is simply the Law of God, operating as the requirements of the Covenant.
Beyond that, Hebrews, along with other New Testament texts, emphasize that in the New Covenant era, there are still Covenantal requirements. The moral requirements of the Law are still there. Obedience is still necessary for salvation (though justification is not achieved by our works). What kind of salvation is it, Paul says in Romans, if you are not being saved from sinning? What kind of salvation is it, if you are not turning from idols to serve the living God?
In the New as in the Old, failing to honor God and serve Him results in His judgment. This is true for all individuals and groups of people, including countries or nations - and therefore where Europe and increasingly the U.S. are today. We are being overrun and conquered, because we have not kept His Law and His Covenant. And God now calls all men everywhere to repent.
